Youth & Teen Classes

Students ages 6 to 18 explore in an active and creative manner stories and characters from Shakespeare’s plays, study the fundamentals of acting and design, and contribute their thoughts and ideas to performances for friends and family. All classes are led by classically trained professional actors and educators who aim to inspire students’ physical, intellectual, and artistic development.

Virtual coaching sessions are available by appointment.

Winter Classes Starting FEB 2

Mondays, FEB 2MAR 16, 2026 | 4–6pm | STC’s Rehearsal Studios, 516 8th St. SE

Students will be introduced to Shakespeare’s most hilarious characters through creative play, theatre games, and art projects. Class will culminate with a final sharing for friends and family.

Saturdays, FEB 7MAR 14, 2026 | 10am12pm | STC’s Rehearsal Studios, 516 8th St. SE

Students will be introduced to Shakespeare’s most merry and boisterous characters through creative play, theatre games, and art projects. Class will culminate with a final sharing for friends and family.

Saturdays, FEB 7APR 25, 2026 | 1–3pm | The Forum in Harman Hall (610 F Street NW)

Performances: MAY 2 at 2pm and 7pm

Students will experience an actor’s journey from audition to performance, be challenged in a collaborative and encouraging environment with advanced acting techniques, and perform twice for friends and family.

Twelfth Night
A young woman, Viola, has a survived a shipwreck and stranded on the beach. Believing her twin brother was drowned in the stormy sea, she disguises herself as a boy, with the help of a sea captain, and is appointed as a page in Duke Orsino’s household and quickly becomes his favorite. In this tale of mistaken identities, elaborate pranks, love triangles, and reunions, hilarity ensues including a cast of some of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters.

Scholarships

In order to make our classes accessible to everyone, need-based scholarships are available.

Please fill out the scholarship application and email it to Classes@ShakespeareTheatre.org. Applications should be submitted at least one week before the class you plan to attend.

Refund Policy

If you are unable to attend a class for any reason (including weather), no refunds or exchanges will be provided. STC rarely cancels events due to inclement weather. If STC cancels a class for any reason, including inclement weather, we will email you. We will make every effort to reschedule the class at a time convenient for the instructor and the majority of the students, but tuition is non-refundable.

If you are no longer able to attend the class as scheduled, please submit a written request to Classes@ShakespeareTheatre.org. 50% will be refunded if registration is withdrawn until one week prior to the first scheduled class. Starting a week prior to the first scheduled class, TUITION IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Please note that refunds for classes may require two to three weeks for processing.
