Man in a Case

Baryshnikov Productions presents
Man in a Case
Adapted from Two Short Stories by Anton Chekhov
Adapted and Directed by Annie-B Parson & Paul Lazar/Big Dance Theater
Choreographed by Annie-B Parson
Featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jess Barbagallo, Tymberly Canale, Chris Giarmo, and Aaron Mattocks
Produced in association with ArKtype/Thomas O. Kriegsmann
December 5-22

Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, the team behind the internationally acclaimed Big Dance Theater, bring their signature style fusing theatre and movement to this world premiere adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s 1898 short story, Man in a Case. In a tale both witty and haunting, a shy, reclusive man’s courtship of a carefree young woman forces him to stare down his own rigid nature. Mikhail Baryshnikov stars, and is joined onstage by a cast that includes Jess Barbagallo, Tymberly Canale, Chris Giarmo, and Aaron Mattocks. The Hartford Stage world premiere of Man in a Case received rave reviews heralded as “an intriguing, ultimately irresistible evening of live performance and mixed media” (Examiner).

Mies Julie Mies Julie
Written and Directed by Yael Farber
Based on August Strindberg's Miss Julie
November 9 – 24

In the humid kitchen of a remote South African estate 18 years post-apartheid, a brutal and tender night unfolds among a black farm laborer, his “master’s” daughter, and the woman who has raised them both. The duality of contemporary South Africa is revealed as a deadly attraction spirals out of control over power, sexuality, mothers and the land. Haunting and violent, intimate and heartbreaking, Mies Julie lays bare questions of what restitution and freedom can really mean and what losses can and cannot ever be recovered.

Mies Julie Potted Potter
Sidney Harman Hall
September 5 – 15

Two unsuspecting comedians take on seven books of spells, potions and epic battles all in seventy minutes. Potted Potter- The Unauthorized Harry Experience takes on the ultimate challenge of condensing the Harry Potter series into an explosive improv piece. Taking cues from the ease of Reduced Shakespeare Company and on par with comedic parodies Potter Puppet Pals and A Very Potter Musical, Potted Potter is a hilarious experience for both Potter novice and expert. Written and performed by two-time Olivier Award-nominated actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, Potted Potter is a raucous adventure for ages six to Dumbledore (who is very old indeed).
