WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Shakespeare Theatre Company announced that Avery Brooks will return to perform the lead in Tamburlaine on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 8 p.m. He will perform in the remaining performances until the end of the run on January 6, 2008. Tamburlaine is running in repertory with Edward II through January 6, 2008, at the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), a part of the Harman Center for the Arts. Performances of Edward II also will continue as scheduled.
The Company had canceled seven previous performances of Tamburlaine to allow ample time for Brooks to recover from an injury. Under normal understudy procedure, these performances would not have been canceled. However, Brooks’ original understudy—who also was playing three other roles between Tamburlaine and Edward II—recently left the production because of a family emergency. The new understudy, who also learned and assumed those roles, had not yet had the time to sufficiently prepare for the tremendously large role of Tamburlaine.
Patrons interested in purchasing tickets to either Tamburlaine or Edward II should visit ShakespeareTheatre.org or call the Box Office at 202.547.1122.
