Friends of Free For All

The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Free For All is a much-loved Washington tradition, offering free performances of a Shakespearean classic to the general public. This year may be the most exciting Free For All to date. Not only does it mark the 25th anniversary of the program, it also has the thrilling distinction of bringing Ethan McSweeny’s masterful 2012 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream back to the Harman stage.

McSweeny’s vision was well-received by critics and audiences alike, and is “a great introduction to the Bard for younger theatergoers” (Washington Post). STC is thrilled to remount this “feast for the senses” (DC Theatre Scene), which, as with every Free For All, costs STC nearly $700,000 to present. But with the support of hundreds of generous Friends, STC has brought world-class Shakespeare productions free of charge to more than 650,000 area residents since its inception.
