AsidesLIVE provides the opportunity for audiences to deepen their relationship with STC’s productions. These multi-hour symposiums will look deeply into both text and production, and encourage audiences to examine the work they see on stage from a well-informed perspective.

The symposium will feature:

Twisted Characters: Creating a New Measure
Miriam Silverman (Isabella), Kurt Rhoads (The Duke) and Scott Parkinson (Angelo) reflect on their approach to Measure for Measure’s complicated characters. Moderated by Assistant Director Gus Heagerty.

The Wicked Stage: Performing Christianity

In Measure Shakespeare placed on the stage side-by-side some of his most pious and most sinful characters. This conversation will look at the impact of depictions of Christianity on stage from Shakespeare’s time to today. The discussion will feature City University of New York professor Christopher Swift and Catholic University professor Patrick Tuite. Moderated by production dramaturg Drew Lichtenberg.

The Governance of Sexuality
This closing panel will look at the play through the perspective of those who work to create a just society.  Featuring Cyndee Clay, Executive Director, HIPS, D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the National LGBT Bar Association and Richmond University professor Anthony Russell. Moderated by playwright and American University professor Randy Baker.
