Please Note: The Shakespeare Theatre Company presents five shows a year in
the Lansburgh. Each show runs from seven to nine weeks at eight performances
per week. Therefore, due to the run of the plays plus load-ins, technical
rehearsals and other Shakespeare Theatre Company events, the theatre’s
availability for rentals is limited. Please call or email to inquire about
the availability of any of our facilities. The Shakespeare Theatre Company
does not provide lines, draping, banners, or design work of any kind for Renters.

House: 451 seats
20 rows deep with a center section, two side sections and ten perimeter boxes. A few seats are partially obstructed depending on what’s on stage.
Proscenium Stage:
Available as is. Renters are permitted on scenery
currently on stage, within reason. Upper levels of scenery, if present, may
not always be used, for liability reasons. Shakespeare Theatre Company will
detail which parts of a particular set renters may use. Steps leading from the
auditorium to the stage will be provided. Drawings of the stage ground plans
and section can be provided on request.
Stage Floor: As is, depending on the show currently on stage - usually a painted wooden floor. Shakespeare Theatre Company does not own nor provide a dance floor.
Masking: As is.
Main Drape: Shakespeare Theatre Company has no permanent Main Drape.
Lights: General illumination provided by the lights as hung for the existing show. Basic areas can be lit to illuminate a podium or selected parts of the stage if the existing plot and focus allows. Some additional lighting instruments can be hung and focused with sufficient notice for additional cost.
Sound: The sound system in place for the current show may be used, in
its current configuration. This usually, but not always, includes microphones,
CD player, minidisk player and general amplification. Podium microphone and
microphones for speakers can be provided. Special effects are sometimes possible
with adequate notice and for additional cost. Body mics can also be provided,
but will require additional staff.
Equipment: Shakespeare Theatre Company can provide a podium,
with or without microphone. Six-foot tables, chairs and some music stands
are also available. Additionally, a Power Point Projector, 6' x 8' screen
and DVD camera for filming can be made available.
Dressing Rooms: Some dressing room space may be made available
with advance notice. Dressing rooms are equipped with mirrors, counters,
make-up lights, sinks, a shower and toilet.
Green Room: Available as is. Tables, chairs, couches and sink.
Bathrooms: Are available independent of the dressing rooms.
Available for catered events, receptions, parties, etc. There is no catering kitchen available. Set up is usually done in the retail hallway just off the lobby.

- Capacity: Will comfortably hold 300 for standing events, 100 seated at round table, 150 seated at long tables and 200 for seated events with podium (no tables).

Box Office/Ticketing Services: Includes use of Shakespeare Theatre Company Box Office phone number and address for reservations, acceptance of reservations, acceptance of credit card sales, ticket stock and ticket envelopes. Only Shakespeare Theatre Company employees can be used in the Lansburgh Box Office.
Box Office Staff
Rates ($20 per hour per employee) are based on number of additional employees the Shakespeare Theatre Company needs to hire in order to “sell” the event. Shakespeare Theatre Company regular Box Office hours apply.
There will be additional charges for:
- Ticket Stock
- Ticket Printing
- Ticket Envelopes
The following services are at no charge:
- Parking Lot Attendant - Allows patrons access to parking garage. Patrons assume responsibility of parking costs. Valet parking is not available.
- Ushers (requires advance notice; subject to availability)
- Concession Stand & Gift Boutique (Shakespeare Theatre Company retains all revenue)

- Hotel Referral
A down payment of 25 percent of the contracted fee will be due at the time
of signing the contract, along with a $500.00 refundable damage deposit.
The deposit will be forfeited if any damage to the Shakespeare Theatre
Company’s
facility occurs during your event. The remaining balance is due one week
prior to the scheduled date of the event. A final invoice of staff hours
and fees will be sent within ten days after the event is completed. Final
payment for staff and additional fees is expected ten days upon receipt
of the invoice. Payment is accepted in the form of cash or certified check. No
credit cards are accepted for the rental of Shakespeare Theatre Company
facilities.
Shakespeare Theatre Company personnel are responsible for overseeing the safe use of the facility and the proper operation of our equipment. We are here to insure that the event goes as smoothly and as professionally as possible. Shakespeare Theatre Company staff is not responsible for construction or load in of material or equipment the renter wishes to bring in for the event. Basic responsibilities of the Renter are as follows:
Follows all theatre rules and building regulations:
- Provides or arranges for all additional set elements, costumes, props, or any specialty item required for the event beyond our basic set up and available resources.
- Provides crew for loading in and setting up the event.
- Provides crew for cleaning up and removing all materials after event is completed.
- Leaves the space in the same condition in which it was found
- STAFFING REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of two Shakespeare Theatre Company
representatives will be present at any outside sponsored event at the
Lansburgh. Shakespeare Theatre Company does not acknowledge any so-called
partnership between itself and any potential Renter unless agreed upon
in writing and approved by the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Managing
Director.
- INSURANCE: Renter must provide a Certificate of Liability, which covers the duration of the event and specifically names The Shakespeare Theatre and the renter.
- SALE OF ALCOHOL: The Shakespeare Theatre Company possesses a liquor license to sell alcoholic beverages. Renter is not permitted to sell alcoholic beverages on Shakespeare Theatre Company property, as this is in violation of Shakespeare Theatre Company’s license. Shakespeare Theatre Company staff is available to sell alcohol, if desired. Shakespeare Theatre Company retains all revenues from any and all sales in lobby.
- LIABILITY: The Shakespeare Theatre Company is NOT liable for injuries acquired as a result of neglect, unlawful and/or unsafe actions on the part of the Renter or Renter(s) guests. Shakespeare Theatre Company is liable for injuries acquired through defects in the facility.
- CONTRACT INFO: The Shakespeare Theatre Company acknowledges use of its facility and/or parts therein only on the receipt of a signed Letter of Agreement. Shakespeare Theatre Company acts as sole judge, through the discretion of its representatives, of any violation of said Letter of Agreement.
- STAFFING REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of two stc representatives will be present at any outside sponsored event at the Lansburgh. Shakespeare Theatre Company does not acknowledge any so-called partnership between itself and any potential Renter unless agreed upon in writing and approved by the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Managing Director.
