Behind the Scenes: Technical Direction

scene shop
Our Technical team is housed in a 23,236-square-foot building, located near Catholic University in Northeast D.C. It contains set construction and painting areas, plus space for the storage of materials and equipment. The facility also contains 5 offices and a break room. Our professional, experienced staff constructs the sets for all of the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s main stage and ancillary productions. This spacious workshop, recently graced with the addition of a CNC Router, is equipped to handle construction in wood, metals, foam and plexi-glass. After construction, sets are transferred to our equally large painting area for back painting and texturing. The paint staff can create scenic drops of 20’ by 40’ or more, and texture in any medium required by the designers.
