Poets are Present is a poetry residency in conjunction with David Ives’s adaptation of The Metromaniacs. As part of this unique theatre/poetry exchange, the Shakespeare Theatre Company is proud to host more than 30 D.C.-area poets in the theatre’s lobby. Throughout the run, we will share with you the poems that this residency inspired our guests to write. Visit our Poets are Present page to see a list of upcoming poets.
Terrylene applies the fundamentals of American Sign Language to captivating poetry. Her poetic hands are definitive in form, powerfully commanding space. Her poems tap into one’s feelings through rhythmic movement, shifting shapes, compelling themes and cinematic language, like images that move by in the frames of a film. Her face, body and hands invite one to imagine and to be changed. Ultimately, Terrylene’s creations guide one through a mystical journey of the human spirit.
