Youth & Teen Classes
Students ages 6 to 17 explore in an active and creative manner stories and characters from Shakespeare’s plays, study the fundamentals of acting and design, and contribute their thoughts and ideas to performances for friends and family. All classes are led by classically trained professional actors and educators who aim to inspire students’ physical, intellectual, and artistic development.

Fall 1 Classes Starting SEP 12, 2026
Classes take place on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons for six weeks and cost $259.
The Fall Teen Intensive takes place on Saturday mornings for 10 weeks and costs $550.

Discover the magical and mysterious side of Shakespeare! Students will explore witches, ghosts, fairies, and other unforgettable characters through creative play, theatre games, and art projects inspired by the Bard’s most enchanting stories. They’ll build confidence and performance skills while bringing these spooky tales to life, culminating in a final sharing for friends and family.

Students will bring Shakespeare’s most infamous villains to life through scene study, script analysis, and character exploration. Along the way, they’ll develop essential acting skills by learning how to interpret Shakespeare’s language, collaborate with a director and scene partner, and create bold, dynamic performances. The session culminates in a final sharing of scenes featuring some of the Bard’s most iconic antagonists.

Saturdays, SEP 12–NOV 21, 2026 | 11am–1pm | The Forum at Harman Hall, 610 F Street NW
Designed for dedicated teen actors, this performance-based class takes students through the complete theatrical process – from audition to final performance. Through rehearsals, scene work, character development, and ensemble collaboration, students will deepen their acting skills, strengthen their understanding of text, and learn performance techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. The session culminates in a performance of The Tempest for friends and family.

Fall 2 Classes Starting OCT 31, 2026
Classes take place on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons for six weeks and cost $259.
Saturdays, OCT 31–DEC 12, 2026 | 10am–12pm | STC’s Rehearsal Studios, 516 8th St. SE
Students will step into Shakespeare’s funniest worlds as they explore the silly characters and clever clowns of As You Like It, Twelfth Night, and The Tempest. Through theatre games, creative play, storytelling, and hands-on art projects, young actors will build confidence, spark their imaginations, and bring these unforgettable characters to life. Along the way, they’ll develop foundational acting skills while discovering that Shakespeare can be fun, accessible, and full of laughter. The class will culminate in a joyful final performance for friends and family.

Mondays, NOV 2–DEC 14, 2026 | 4pm–6pm | STC’s Rehearsal Studios, 516 8th St. SE
Students will discover how to bring Shakespeare’s words to life as they explore the powerful stories of revolution, rebellion, and political ambition in Julius Caesar, Richard II, and Coriolanus. Through script analysis, character development, and scene study, students will learn how actors uncover meaning in Shakespeare’s language while building dynamic, believable characters. Along the way, they’ll develop essential performance skills, including collaborating with a director and scene partner, before presenting selected scenes in a final sharing for friends and family.

Scholarships
In order to make our classes accessible to everyone, need-based scholarships are available.
Please fill out the scholarship application and email it to Classes@ShakespeareTheatre.org. Applications should be submitted at least one week before the class you plan to attend.

Refund Policy
If you are unable to attend a class for any reason (including weather), no refunds or exchanges will be provided. STC rarely cancels events due to inclement weather. If STC cancels a class for any reason, including inclement weather, we will email you. We will make every effort to reschedule the class at a time convenient for the instructor and the majority of the students, but tuition is non-refundable.
If you are no longer able to attend the class as scheduled, please submit a written request to Classes@ShakespeareTheatre.org. 50% will be refunded if registration is withdrawn until one week prior to the first scheduled class. Starting a week prior to the first scheduled class, TUITION IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Please note that refunds for classes may require two to three weeks for processing.
