“Theatre is a verb before it is a noun, an act before it is a place.” –Martha Graham
At its heart, theatre is a live, collective experience—one that starts long before the curtain rises and continues after the final bow. STC Salon is your invitation to join that continuum. A space for passionate theatregoers, curious minds, and engaged community members, STC Salon offers the rare opportunity to explore not only what you see onstage—but how it gets there, and why it matters.

STC Salon is led by Associate Producer Drew Lichtenberg.
Individual 5-week Salons are priced at $499.
The STC Salon Series with all six sessions and the Session for The Wild Duck/Ibsen Celebration are sold out. Individual Salons can be purchased using the links above.
Salon meets Wednesdays from 1–3 PM at Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Sessions include additional free STC events throughout the season, when available.

Each five-week Salon session is a deep, guided conversation about one of STC’s mainstage productions. But it’s more than just talk. As a Salon member, you’ll gain exclusive access to the creative minds behind the work—actors, directors, and designers, yes, but also the brilliant technicians, stage managers, and theatre administrators who turn vision into reality.
From the choices made in a lighting cue to the logistics of building a season, from dramaturgical research to rehearsal breakthroughs, you’ll witness the incredible collaboration it takes to bring each production to life. You’ll hear directly from costume artisans about fabric choices, or from sound designers about how a single moment of silence can shape the emotional landscape of a scene. You may even speak with the producers and program staff who work behind the scenes to support the creative process and connect it with audiences like you.
This is a space where your observations and questions matter. Where every participant’s lived experience adds dimension to the dialogue. Where art is explored not as a finished product, but as a living process shared between creators and audience.
“The behind the scenes experience of the Shakespeare Salons is amazing. In a small conversational setting meeting with the full range of those who make this magic happen, we end up with a greatly enhanced theatre experience.” –Beth Marcus, Salon Member
