In celebration of Latine Heritage Month
ÁLZATE, STC's bilingual Shakespeare and audition monologue workshop, is back!
This free 4-hour acting and dramaturgy intensive gives artists the tools they need to break open bilingual classical texts (Spanish and English) to excel in audition and rehearsal rooms in professional theatre.Part One—Exploring Bilingual Shakespeare
The first half of the session will be an exploration of bilingual Shakespeare pieces from theatremakers across the country. Carla Della Gatta (theatre historian, dramaturg, educator and author of Latinx Shakespeares: Staging US Intracultural Theater) and Danica Rodriguez (STC Resident Casting Director) will lead attendees through a conversation where we'll build our own definitions of bilingual Shakespeare, explore the ethics and aesthetics of translated texts and attempt to answer the question "why do we make bilingual Shakespeare?"
Part Two—Audition Monologue Workshop
The second half of the session will be an audition monologue workshop, where the workshop attendees will bring in a short piece to perform for a panel of D.C. casting directors and theatre artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to get feedback from industry professionals and tips on best practices for auditions. For the attendees who do not want to perform as a part of this workshop, we invite you to observe and engage with the monologues alongside the casting panel.Register by SEP 1
