Prior Experience: Approaching Shakespeare and/or Fundamentals of Scene Study or equivalent required.
Hamlet? Nora? Prior Walter? Lady Macbeth? What character from a play have you always wanted to tackle? It’s your choice! Be ambitious and dream. With text analysis, monologues and scene work with other class members, students will tackle a comprehensive exploration of one character under the instruction of STC Affiliated Artist and Helen Hayes Award-winning actor Naomi Jacobson.

Week One: Centering and physicality, mining the text, character clues and givens
Week Two: Structuring the text—key phrases, images and personalization of language, subtext
Week Three: Emotional vulnerability—voice and breath, energetic and psychological awareness
Week Four: Objectives and actions, obstacles—internal and external, conflict
Week Five: Bold choices, unique traits, individual focus and magnetism
Week Six: Inhabiting, trust, entitlement, expression
