What time should I arrive at the theatre? What if I'm late?
We recommend patrons arrive at least 30 minutes before the show to avoid last minute lines at the Box Office. Large groups should allow more time before the show to distribute tickets. We recommend an hour before the performance. If you are running late, keep in mind that the Box Office windows stay open until about 15 minutes after curtain. If you arrive by that time, you can pick up your tickets there. If not, see the house manager in the lobby, he / she will have your tickets. The ushers will take you into the house and have you stand at the back until the next seating break. Click here to check the performance calendar.
Are there any street closings or traffic problems around the Theatre?
Click here to see DC street closings and traffic issues.
When there is an event at the Verizon Center (at 7th and G Streets NW), traffic is heavier and parking is harder to find. Click here to see what's going on at the Verizon Center.
Everyone is encouraged to use Metro and other forms of public transportation. Riding Metro is the best option for hassle-free transport.
What do I do if I can't find my ticket?
Just come to the Box Office, give them your name and let them know you lost your ticket. They can issue you a location pass for your seat(s). They may ask to see an ID.
Where do I pick up my tickets? Do I need to show an ID or credit card?
Pick up tickets at a box office window. Please note: For performances at the Lansburgh Theatre, you will pick your tickets up at the Lansburgh Theatre Box Office. For performances at Sidney Harman Hall, you will pick your tickets up at the Sidney Harman Hall Box Office. Please double-check the location of your performance. An hour before the show, certain windows are designated “Will Call.” We don't usually require an ID. Normally all you will need is the first and last name that the tickets are held under. However, it's also helpful to have the ticket order number and/or credit card number associated with your order. Virtual Exchange subscribers can present their pink Virtual Exchange card, but it is not necessary.
Where can I eat something before the show?
If you're looking for dinner, there are several excellent restaurants just a block or two from the theatre. Click here to see a listing of recommended nearby restaurants. The Shakespeare Theatre concessions stand opens in the lobby about an hour before curtain to provide light fare and a variety of drinks.
What number should I give the babysitter?
You can leave the number for the concessions stand 202.547.3230, extension 2517. Remember to leave your seat locations with your sitter so we can locate you more easily. What if I've had a last-minute change of plans and cannot get to the Theatre today?
Last-minute change of plans? Can't make it to the Theatre tonight? You can donate your tickets even after the Box Office is closed. Click here or just call us at 202.547.1122. When you get the message that says, "If you have tickets for tonight's performance and will be unable to attend," just press 9 and leave a message. We will note your account and send you a letter acknowledging your contribution.
Is the show canceled because of inclement weather?
In the unlikely event of a show cancellation, a cancellation notice will be
posted on the main page of our website and we will attempt to contact ticket
holders for that performance by phone to notify them of the cancellation. Patrons
can also find out if a performance has been canceled by calling the Box Office
at 202.547.1122, during business hours,
and pressing 1. We will also list the cancellation on the Box Office phone message
at 202.547.1122.
Performance cancellations are rare and are usually decided late in the afternoon for an evening performance. The Theatre does not offer refunds when a performance has taken place. When a performance is canceled due to inclement weather or other reasons, alternatives will be assessed at that time regarding possible exchanges or refunds.
If the performance is not canceled, we encourage patrons to use Metro instead of driving.
What should I wear to the theatre?
We have no official "dress code" for attending plays at The Shakespeare Theatre. Our patrons usually dress in business casual attire for non-Opening Night Performances and in formal business attire for Opening Nights. However, we'd rather have a patron come in jeans and sweatshirt than not come at all out of concern for how they are dressed.
On occasion the theatre can be slightly chilly due to a particular set design's impact on the air flow. Lap blankets are available at the coat check if you get chilly.
