In Defense of the Arts
In Defense of the Arts (IDOA) is an affinity group which brings together members
and supporters of the local defense and government contracting community to
support the presentation of classical theatre and make theatre accessible to
our work force, with a particular focus on disabled veterans temporarily housed
in Washington, D.C.
In 2010, the Shakespeare Theatre Company presented a Leadership Repertory
during which two of Shakespeare’s greatest military characters shared
the stage of Sidney Harman Hall. Performances of Richard II, a tragedy
set in the context of controversy over war taxes and military spending, and Henry
V, which has been variously interpreted to celebrate the English military
victory and to question the glory of war, alternated on the same stage between
February 2 and April 11, 2010.
“From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...”
Henry V, act 4, scene 3
Support of the IDOA Leadership Series allows you to position your organization
as a leader in the defense industry and provides you the opportunity to “present” the
important lessons of these Shakespearean productions to federal decision makers,
key clients and staff.
