The Shakespeare Theatre Company proudly presents Hunchback, a brilliant adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as a part of its Youth and Family Series. The Youth and Family Series introduces younger audiences to classic literature from around the world through engaging, age-appropriate productions.
Created by Chicago’s Redmoon Theater, this acclaimed production tells the tragic story of Quasimodo the hunchback, Esmeralda the gypsy and Frollo the villainous cleric in a mesmerizing and monumental tale of loss and redemption. The show features delicate mask work, multiple styles of puppetry including rod, shadow, bunraku and giant puppets, and mechanical towers enabling amazing acrobatic feats.

Redmoon Theater’s production of Hunchback is true to Victor Hugo’s novel and contains some challenging content, including the deaths of several major characters. It is recommended for ages 8 and above.
