The Shakespeare Theatre Company proudly presents Hunchback, a brilliant adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as a part of its Youth and Family Series. The Youth and Family Series introduces younger audiences to classic literature from around the world through engaging, age-appropriate productions.

Created by Chicago’s Redmoon Theater, this acclaimed production tells the tragic story of Quasimodo the hunchback, Esmeralda the gypsy and Frollo the villainous cleric in a mesmerizing and monumental tale of loss and redemption. The show features delicate mask work, multiple styles of puppetry including rod, shadow, bunraku and giant puppets, and mechanical towers enabling amazing acrobatic feats.

Ticket price: $10–$25

Redmoon Theater’s production of Hunchback is true to Victor Hugo’s novel and contains some challenging content, including the deaths of several major characters. It is recommended for ages 8 and above.

The Youth and Family Series is sponsored by Judy and Leo Zickler and the Youth and Family Series Alliance.

The Youth and Family Series Alliance is a collaboration between the Shakespeare Theatre Company and Washington, D.C. families and schools committed to family-oriented productions of classic literature and plays.
