Shakespeare Theatre Company invites the public to spend the evening with Artistic Director Michael Kahn as he offers a Master Class.

“Michael Kahn has groomed generations of classical actors and directors—both as a director and as a teacher at Juilliard,” said Dat Ngo, Training Programs Manager at STC. “This Master Class will give the audience a chance to see Mr. Kahn’s process up close and personal. The audience will get the sense that they’ve pulled a chair up to the same dinner table, listening to a man describe his art, his mission and his vision.”

The evening will commence with a question-and-answer period with Kahn.  Audience members may ask the artistic director about his philosophy of Shakespeare and education, hear him talk about why he started teaching and listen to him describe his most compelling experiences as a director and educator.

Kahn will then workshop classical monologues and scenes performed by students in STC’s Master Acting Class program. “Audiences will get to see how Mr. Kahn teaches actors to approach classical texts, perform heightened language, mine the text for clues about character and story—with the ultimate goal of engaging an audience through live performance,” said Ngo.

Hosted by the Company’s Education Department, this special event offers audiences an intimate look at the renowned director’s approach to teaching Shakespeare.

* Note to current and former Master Acting Class students: You are eligible for exclusive $10 tickets to this event. Please contact the Education Department at 202.547.5688.
