Overview
Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Education Department will engage a total of 16 teens from the greater Washington metropolitan region in a rigorous, year-long training program in classical acting. Developed and facilitated by STC’s resident teaching artist and affiliated teaching artists, the program will run four afternoons a week, equipping teens with intensive training in a variety of disciplines such as acting technique, voice, movement, text analysis and Shakespeare scene study. The program includes numerous opportunities for participants to attend live theatre, not only at STC but also at other selected venues and theatres, and culminates each semester with a live performance for invited guests (a black-box, workshop performance in the fall; a 1½ hour performance of one Shakespeare play with limited technical and design support in spring).
Schedule
Fall semester will start with attendance of a Free for All performance in August 2013 with instruction beginning in September 2013. Participants will meet Monday, September 16, 2013 – Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Fall workshop performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on December 19, 2013.
Spring semester will start in January 2014. Participants will meet Monday, January 13 – Thursday, May 1 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The final performance of a 1 ½ hour version of one Shakespeare play will take place in May 2014.
Spring performances will take place May 8 – 23, 2014.

Download the Young Company application and Information Materials. Young Company members are selected via audition and must submit a completed application to be considered. Complete the application and return it by July 1, 2013. If you are selected to audition, you will be invited via email and provided with all audition information/requirements at that time.
