Youth Classes

SCHEDULE: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Shakespeare Theatre Rehearsal Studios, located at 507 or 516 Eighth Street SE
TUITION: $30 per individual workshop
$100 for a workshop series
$300 for a season pass
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Ages 12-18 only

ACTING FOR TEENS

Get the best training from professional actors and teaching artists that only STC can deliver! This four-workshop series includes Acting Basics, Acting with Objectives, Acting and Movement, and Creating a Character. We strongly recommend taking the entire series, but students can also register for a single workshop.

Play with movement techniques actors use to create dynamic characters on stage.

CREATING A CHARACTER

SCENE STUDY FOR TEENS

Saturdays, October 31 through November 21, 2015, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Instructor: Brent Stansell
Prerequisite: Acting for Teens or equivalent recommended. Students must register and commit to all four workshops.

Don’t miss the opportunity to rehearse and work on scenes with students invested in the craft of acting. Students will receive individualized coaching on scene work, working with a partner on the best scenes for young people from contemporary and classic drama.

AUDITION INTENSIVE FOR TEENS

Need help nailing the audition to get that dream part? With guidance from STC Training Programs Manager and university theatre professor Brent Stansell, this class covers the basics of auditioning including selecting appropriate material, making clear choices with the text, rehearsing at home, and presenting your best self at the audition. Students should bring a 1-2 minute monologue they plan to use for an audition.

Need a polished audition monologue? Want to get into the college theatre program of your choice? This class applies the basic principles of acting, including vocal work, text analysis and movement, to audition monologues and provides students with the opportunity to receive individual coaching on contemporary or classic monologues for auditions. Students should bring a 1-2 minute monologue they plan to use for an audition.

SHAKESPEARE TRAINING FOR TEENS

Wondering what it takes to perform Shakespeare? Get a preview of the Camp Shakespeare experience before summer begins! Led by classically trained actors and teaching artists from our camp roster, explore an introduction to Acting and Movement, Stage Combat, Acting Shakespeare, and Shakespeare in Rehearsal. We recommend taking the entire series, but students can also register for a single workshop.

Explore the basic combat of Shakespeare's players and audiences: from slaps, fisticuffs and tumbling to safe, theatrical Elizabethan dagger technique.

Crack open the mysteries of playing Shakespeare! Students will be given the basic tools to understand and perform his work in an active, immediate way. Students will gain a strong understanding of verse, prose, meter, character and intent to prepare them for continuing study.

Rehearse and work on scenes from Shakespeare’s plays! Students will receive individualized coaching on scene work, working with a partner on the best scenes from Shakespeare’s plays.
