In the Moment
Instructor: Oran Sandel
Mondays and Tuesdays, June 8 - 30 from 7 pm – 9 pm (8 sessions)
Tuition: $325
The art of improvisation is one we all practice every day, whether we are doctors, lawyers, artists or businesspeople. This class is offered as a way to add layers of mindfulness and technique to that skill set, thereby increasing confidence and communication skills, as well as enriching the quality of life. Through improvisational theatre experiences for the mind, body and voice, workshop participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role of imagination, playfulness and creativity in daily life. Anyone wishing to pursue improvisation and theatre performance will also find the skills taught in this class invaluable.

Introduction to Shakespeare
Instructor: Audra Polk
Mondays and Tuesdays, June 8 – 30 from 7 pm – 9 pm (8 sessions)
Tuition: $325
For those students just starting to explore the world and language of Shakespeare’s plays, this class will help to demystify his canon of work. Through a mixture of performance and text analysis, students will gain a strong understanding of verse, prose, meter, character and intent to prepare them for continuing study.

Acting for Business Professionals
Instructor: Vanessa Buono
Mondays and Tuesdays, July 6 – 28 from 7 pm – 9 pm (8 sessions)
Tuition: $325
This course helps professionals become more relaxed, present and persuasive in public through the study of techniques used by actors and directors in the theatre. Exploring exercises and improvisations in a safe and relaxed atmosphere, participants will learn how to listen and communicate more effectively, whether speaking to a client, a supervisor or an employee, in a cubicle or conference hall. 

Shakespeare Scene Study
Instructor: Esther Williamson
Mondays and Tuesdays, July 6 – 28 from 7 pm – 9 pm (8 sessions)
Tuition: $325
Designed for actors who have experience with Shakespeare's text and would like to continue their exploration through scene work. The class will focus on textual clarity, beats, physicalizing actions and intentions, active listening and making bold choices with scenes from Shakespeare’s canon.

Season’s Focus

Mondays and Tuesdays, July 20 – 28 from 7 pm – 9 pm (4 sessions)

The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s 2009-2010 season features three works by William Shakespeare, and all will be performed in startling new ways: As You Like It, Richard II and Henry V. Join STC Literary Associate Akiva Fox to explore the plays as literary texts, as documents of Shakespeare’s artistic growth, and in performance.

Introduction to Acting
Instructor: Lorraine Ressegger
Saturdays, June 6 – August 1 from 10 am – 12 pm (8 sessions)
Tuition: $325
For students who have always wanted to try their hand at acting or have not graced the stage since high school, this class provides a foundation of acting skills from which one can pursue additional exploration and development. Students will explore improvisation, characterization, text analysis and other key acting skills using both contemporary and classical scenes and monologues. 

Voice and Text
Instructor: Christopher Marino
Mondays and Tuesdays, July 6 – 7 and 13 – 14 from 7:15 pm – 9:15 pm (4 sessions)
Tuition: $275
Explore the integration of voice and language while deepening your understanding of the creative power of your own voice. Through a broad range of exercises, students will explore the links between the body, voice, language and action and increase their ability to utilize safely and effectively an expressive, powerful and fully embodied voice either onstage or in daily life.

Shakespeare Monologue Workshop
Instructor: Andrew Long
Saturdays, June 13 – July 11 from 10 am – 12 pm (4 sessions)
Tuition: $275
Students in this advanced course will have the opportunity to work with Andrew Long, a veteran actor of Shakespeare Theatre Company’s stage appearing in King Lear, in order to gain insight and skills for developing Shakespeare audition monologues. Please come prepared for the first class with a two-minute Shakespeare monologue in verse. 

Stage Combat Intensive Series
Instructor: Casey Kaleba
Saturdays, July 18 – August 1 from 10 am – 12 pm (3 sessions)
Tuition: $225
Open to both working actors looking to refresh their techniques and non-actors hoping to gain insight into choreographing fights for the stage, this series of fun, interactive and physical workshops will provide participants with working knowledge of unarmed combat (including falls, tumbles, grapples, punches and kicks) and rapier and dagger techniques (including basic cuts, parries and footwork).

Theatre in the Classroom

Monday, July 6 from 10 am – 3 pm
Tuition: $25 for DC, MD or VA public school and chartered public school teachers
In this one-day intensive, teachers will learn a variety of theatre games and activities designed to strengthen communication, community and collaboration in the classroom. These interactive and engaging activities address multiple standards of learning and learning styles. Lesson plans will be provided. Appropriate for elementary and secondary school teachers.

Teaching Literacy through Theatre
Instructor:Wyckham Avery and Audra Polk
Monday, July 13 from 10 am – 3 pm
Tuition: $25 for DC, MD or VA public school and chartered public school teachers
In this one-day intensive, teachers will learn a variety of theatre games and writing activities that strengthen literacy and critical thinking skills. Each standard-driven lesson addresses multiple learning styles while unlocking student creativity and celebrating their imagination. Lesson plans will be provided. Appropriate for elementary and secondary school teachers.
