Important Information and Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where are classes held?
A: Classes are held at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Education and Rehearsal
Studios, located at 507 8th Street SE and 516 8th Street SE. Both facilities
are two blocks from Eastern Market Metro (Orange and Blue Lines).
Q: Where is the closest METRO station?
A: Eastern Market Station on the Blue and Orange Lines is a block and a half
away from both 507 and 516 Eighth Street SE.
Q: How can I register?
A: You have the option of registering online at ShakespeareTheatre.org or over
the phone by calling the Shakespeare Theatre Company Education Department
at 202.547.5688.
Q: What is the last day to register?
A: Officially, a student can register up until the first day of class. However,
because the Education Department makes decisions regarding class cancellations
a week prior to the first class, it is important that prospective students
not wait until the last minute to register.
Q: Are there any discounts available?
A: Yes. There is an early registration discount of $25 available (for the Fall
2010 session, register by August 17). There is also a multiple class discount
available. If students register for two or more classes at one time, they
receive a 15% discount off total tuition. To receive this discount, students
must register for all courses with payment in full over the phone. We also
honor special Actor’s Center, League of Washington Theatres and STC
Volunteer discounts. Multiple discounts cannot be applied; only one discount
may be applied at time of registration.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: Unfortunately, because registrations secure a space that could go to another
student, we are unable to grant any refunds, partial or full. If Shakespeare
Theatre Company cancels a course due to low enrollment, either a full refund
or a credit towards another class will be granted.
Q: What is your class cancellation policy?
A: Classes are only cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met. The Education
Department makes this determination a week prior to the first class.
Q: Is there a specific track of classes that I should follow?
A: Not necessarily. While some classes obviously lead to other classes, students
are free to determine their own journeys. The Education Department is happy
to assist you with your decisions on which class to take next based on your
interest and skill set. Contact them at STCtraining@shakespearetheatre.org or
at 202.547.5688.
Q: How do I decide which classes are appropriate for me in regards
to level of training?
A: Wherever possible, the Education Department has included a line of underlined
text within each class description to help students gauge appropriate levels
of training. For example, some courses do not require students to have any
acting experience while some advanced courses require students to have had
extensive experience.
Q: What happens if I have to miss a class? Do you offer make-up classes?
A: Because classes are highly interactive and may involve partnered scene work,
students are strongly encouraged to attend every scheduled class. In the
event that an instructor or the Company cancels a class due to special circumstances,
make-up sessions or additional time will be scheduled.
Q: Do you offer private classes?
A: If you wish to pursue private training with one of our teaching artists,
contact the Training Programs Manager who will be happy to coordinate a private
session. Additionally, the Shakespeare Theatre Company offers a one-day intensive
format of Acting for Business Professionals for organizations interested
in hosting a professional development workshop for their staff. Contact them
at STCtraining@shakespearetheatre.org or
at 202.547.5688.
Q: Do you offer summer courses?
A: Yes. We will announce our summer course offerings in May.
Q: Do you offer a certificate or degree?
A: No. The Master Acting Class program does not provide participants with a
certificate or a degree. |
