Living in Washington, D.C.
“Washington, D.C. provides an incredible backdrop for your internship.
You have the opportunity to live and work in a city that is vibrant, cultural,
and of course political - not to mention a great theater town!”
Caroline Alexander
2006-2007 Education Intern
With the high-energy of a bustling metropolis, the diverse culture and history
of Europe and the old-world charm of a Southern town, Washington, D.C. is a vibrant
city and a great place to live. Not only is D.C. home to the U.S. Capitol, White
House and Smithsonian museums, but it also hosts an amazing array of world-class
restaurants, historic neighborhoods, performing arts venues and sports arenas.
So when they are not helping to produce an exciting season of mainstage productions
or working a special event, Shakespeare Theatre Company interns and fellows can
be spotted watching the scoreboard at a Nationals game, rubbing elbows with Hill
staffers during lunch at Good Stuff Eatery, strolling along the C&O Canal
in Georgetown, dancing the night away in Adams Morgan, sampling Jose Andres’ culinary
creations at Café Atlantico or in the case of our 2008-2009 interns and
fellows, watching the 44th President of the United States get sworn in on the
steps of the Capitol Building!
In addition to the Shakespeare Theatre Company, D.C. boasts an impressive
array of theatres and cultural centers, including Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company,
Studio Theatre, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Arena Stage.
Interns and fellows are frequently offered reduced-price or complimentary tickets
to dress rehearsals and special performances.
