Groundlings are introduced to acting, stage combat, and the language in Shakespeare’s plays. Movement classes develop coordination while participants learn how to create characters. Camp will culminate with a showcase of scenes with a common theme onstage at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Young Performers
Young performers investigate the complexities of Shakespeare’s language and create dynamic characters. They explore the art of comedy, strengthen their ability to work in an ensemble and tackle the techniques of unarmed stage combat. Camp culminates with a one-hour performance of a Shakespeare comedy onstage at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Teen Ensemble
Teens are challenged with in-depth voice training and text analysis to gain a command of the text on stage. Vigorous movement classes focus on skills in agility and control. Participants study armed stage combat, focusing on dagger, rapier and broadsword techniques. Camp culminates with a one-hour performance of a Shakespeare tragedy onstage at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Advanced Camp

Advanced Camp
Returning participants of Camp Shakespeare advance their study by creating and sustaining a character’s journey through the course of a production process. Over three weeks, the cast will investigate, develop and execute a theatrical performance of Shakespeare’s text, culminating in three public performances.
