Classics in Context

Explore the plays of the Shakespeare Theatre Company's season in depth, as literary texts, performance scripts and in production. Through discussions learn about production histories, social and cultural contexts, and approaches while examining the relevancy of the production in its own time and ours. Classics in Context seminars are scheduled throughout the season to enhance the experience of attending each production.

RSVPs for these discussions are accepted on this site or by calling the box office at 202-547-1122, extension 4.  Events are general admission; please arrive early for best seating.

Theological Discussions

Working in partnership with the Virginia Theological Seminary, Theological Discussions provide audience members another lens through which to examine the plays of our season—the theological perspective. By combining a discussion of the current production at the Shakespeare Theatre Company with the theological relevance of the play in its time and ours, our audience is given a thought-provoking view of the role of theatre in our society.
