ShakesPEERS

Shakespeare Theatre Company’s community-based, after-school theatre program, ShakesPEERS invites students ages 10 to 19 throughout the District to explore their world through performance and mentorship. ShakesPEERS offers students the resources to develop new skills and build self-esteem and confidence through the creation and performance of classic plays, poems and stories. The two tiers of ShakesPEERS—Core Company (ages 13–19) and After School Partnerships (ages 9 – 15)—increase self-awareness and academic preparedness. ShakesPEERS fulfills a vital need in the community by providing a nurturing place during non-school hours for young people in the District to explore their creative voices. At all levels, ShakesPEERS promotes personal responsibility, academic achievement, creative expression and community involvement. Click here for a registration form and return it signed by a parent or guardian to our office located at 516 8th St SE, Eastern Market Metro (Orange/Blue Lines)

ShakesPEERS After-School Program meets weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning January 22nd thru May 8th.

*Please note the program will extend to 6:30 p.m. on March 11th.

Hamlet
by William Shakespeare
A one-hour version performed by ShakesPEERS

A story of love and revenge set in cold, eerie Denmark. The play begins when Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, discovers his father’s been murdered by his Uncle.  Queen Gertrude, his mother, has just married his Uncle, Claudius, who crowns himself King.  And his love, Ophelia, is asked to spy on him.  How will Hamlet seek his revenge?
