Learn how to approach text from playwrights at the forefront of new languages and structures in an ever-changing performance landscape. When existing American acting and directing theories are not sufficient to interpret and activate non-realistic texts, the modern actor must incorporate new skills. Working with the techniques of artists like Germany’s Thomas Ostermeier and Dutch acting teacher Paul Binnerts, plunge into in-depth text analysis and detailed character exploration, specifically exploring non-realistic text by playwrights like Sarah Ruhl, Caryl Churchill, and Sara Kane. Receive direction and coaching from Michael Dove, Artistic Director of Forum Theatre, whose directorial focus includes new contemporary theatre forms particularly from the UK, Germany, and Eastern Europe.
