Volunteering
Thank you for your interest in becoming an STC volunteer! Volunteers play an essential role in the successful operation of the Shakespeare Theatre Company at the Harman Center for the Arts. Our dedicated volunteers provide support to numerous departments, including house management, hospitality and administration. Time commitments vary by department. There are many benefits for volunteers, including special invitations to select Shakespeare Theatre Company events as well as discounts on classes and merchandise. Applications are accepted year-round with orientations for new volunteers occurring four times a year. Volunteers are encouraged to make a season-long commitment to the Company. Once your application form is submitted, you will be contacted via email to set up a brief phone interview.

Ushers assist Shakespeare Theatre Company patrons at performances and help to ensure that every audience member has an enjoyable experience at the theatre. Specific duties include scanning tickets, checking coats and stuffing programs. Although ushers can work as many times as they like in a season, scheduling priority is given to those who work at an evening or matinee performance at least once per Shakespeare Theatre Company production (there are eight productions in a season). Ushers are also invited by email to usher at the annual Free For All at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in late May. Additionally, ushers will be invited to usher for non-Shakespeare Theatre Company events taking place in both venues. Usher seating is based on availability and is at the discretion of House Management. The Perks
